PhD Research: Sonography Survey | What fat is that?
This survey aims to explore the ultrasound measurement of perirenal adipose tissue (PRAT) thickness.
A recent review of the literature has shown PRAT thickness to be a good predictor of cardiovascular disease.
This is important because a portable imaging modality, such as ultrasound, enables easy and accurate imaging of PRAT, especially in remote and regional centres, where other modalities are not available.
Acceptable research projects or research surveys need to meet the following criteria to gain approval before being advertised:
-
The researcher must be an ASA member* undertaking a postgraduate degree, i.e. a higher degree such as Masters or PhD.
-
The survey must be relevant to medical ultrasound practice or the sonography profession.
-
The research is being conducted through a tertiary education institution or other reputable research/education institute.
-
The project has already received ethics approval from a tertiary education or government health department/service.
-
Content published will include approx. 50 words with the ethics approval number and a link to the survey or a website where participants can find out more about the project. Followed by one reminder within four weeks of original publication.
-
At the conclusion of the research, a summary of the research findings should be forwarded to the Editor of Sonography journal at: editor@sonographers.org
*Requests from non-ASA members can be submitted and may be considered on merit, subject to meeting the above criteria and the availability of channels at the time of the request. Please allow 14 days for reply.
