About CPD
The ASA provides the most comprehensive range of sonographer focused CPD opportunities in Australasia. Members have access to the highest quality learning tailored for the sonography profession. Our program includes an ever expanding online learning library and face-to-face events that support the needs of our members, regardless of where they are located. Online learning is completely free, and ASA events are heavily discounted for members.

The ASA webinar series brings high quality ultrasound education anytime, anywhere. Each webinar is between 30–60 minutes and provides educational and practical information from industry experts across a range of sub-specialties.
CPD points are allocated at the conclusion of a webinar viewing, and range in value from 0.5–1 point depending on video duration.
The ASA educational video series take webinars to the next level. These in-depth videos run between 60–90 minutes and incorporate:
- Live scanning techniques, including patient positioning and equipment
- Tips to improve diagnostic outcomes
- Normal anatomy and anatomical variants
- Pathological findings, including ultrasound characteristics.

The ASA Online Learning Modules (OLM) provide a great accompaniment to your learning material with activity components designed for an immersive and engaging experience. Designed with the busy sonographer in mind, members can save the module at any point and return to the same place to complete the module in their own time.
With three “streams” of learning on offer, you can find the perfect module for you.
Fundamental
Aimed at students, entry-level sonographers and those who need a refresher in certain specialty areas of ultrasound. Fundamental OLMs review the background knowledge and skill base set across a range of commonly encountered examinations. Topics cover basic anatomy, physiology, ultrasound techniques and image interpretation in an interactive experience with the aim to assist understanding and skill retention.
Advance
Aimed at accredited medical sonographers who wish to build on their fundamental knowledge base. Advance OLMs are aimed at sonographers wanting to up-skill and gain in-depth knowledge into specific topics and skill sets, or simply further explore areas of interest. Each module is tailored to the learning required with topics covering advanced ultrasound anatomy, extending the foundation study, image acquisition and interpretation in specialist/tertiary examinations, interventional procedures and advanced ultrasound techniques.
Professional Growth
Aimed at all sonographers throughout their professional lives. Professional Growth OLMs provide members with a variety of learning opportunities covering a broad range of themes such as professional growth, development, patient care and wellbeing.
Following the publication of each edition of the ASA Sonography journal, some featured articles will have a corresponding CPD test to help cement the readers learning. These tests consist of a series of multiple-choice questions regarding the content of the associated article.
At the successful completion of the test you will be awarded a certificate and 1 CPD credit.
ASA Podcasts offer members convenient access to industry insights, expert discussions, and professional development, anywhere, anytime. Our podcast learning opportunities, keep sonographers updated on the latest trends and technologies through shared knowledge, benefiting both early-career and experienced professionals.
